Russian Railways presented first sketches of Moscow–Kazan high-speed train

Russian Railways has presented the first exterior and interior sketches of a train that is expected to carry passengers on Moscow-Kazan high-speed railway line. The train will be designed by Sinara, owned by Russian billionaire Dmitry Pumpyansky, together with China CNR Corporation. According to Russian Railways' presentation made available to RBK, each train will have 12 cars and be able to accelerate up to 360 km/h. The train will have 743 seats. Most seats (380) will be the cheapest tourist class seats, with 22 first class seats, 112 business class seats, and 229 second class seats. Russian Railways' representative informed that ticket pricing will be available after the design is complete. “Now we can only say that the production will be 80% localised”, he underlined. According to RZD's estimates, the total cost of Moscow-Kazan line is RUB1.068 tn. The line will be 770 km long, and the travel time will be 3.5 hours against the current 11.5 hours. China already seeks to invest in the project. In the beginning of May, Russian Railways' and China Investment Corporation's executives signed a Memorandum of Understanding for joint financing of the HSR. In accordance with tentative agreements, the Chinese party will invest about RUB300 bn in the project, including RUB250 bn as 20-year loan, and the rest as a contribution in the capital of a special-purpose vehicle. There is no final approval of the framework yet. The line is being designed by a Russian-Chinese consortium of Mosgiprotrans, Nizhegorodmetproekt, and China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group. A RUB20 bn worth contract with the designers was signed in June 2015 at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The design is to be completed by May 2016, and then the line's final cost will be defined. Concurrently, Sinara is negotiating with CNR Corporation on joint development and production of HSR trains at the Russian company's facilities. Source: RBK
