Russia and China to invest over RUB1 tn in Moscow–Kazan HSR

Russian President Vladimir Putin told that Russia and China intend to invest over RUB1 tn in the construction of Moscow-Kazan high-speed railway line to be expectedly launched by 2020. According to him, high-speed railway network development is a priority area of Russian-Chinese cooperation. “We have already agreed upon the terms of joint financing of Moscow-Kazan high-speed railway line. Together with our Chinese partners we are going to invest over RUB1 tn”, said Russian President. He expects the new line to be operational by 2020 and become a benchmark project for Russian-Chinese cooperation in the transport and infrastructure. President Putin also said that for both parties the cooperation in aircraft and rocket and space industries is of top importance. “There is an agreement on joint development of a wide-body long haul jet and a heavy-duty helicopter, and some other programs”, said President Putin in his interview to TASS and Xinhua news agencies on the threshold of his visit to China. Russian Railways plans to lay 770 km of Moscow-Kazan line through 7 regions with over 25 mn population. There will be 15 stops, including Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Cheboksary and Kazan. The travel time between Moscow and Kazan will be cut to 3.5 hours. In June, RZD and a Russian-Chinese consortium contracted for the HSR design and surveys. The consortium is led by Mosgiprotrans with Nizhegorodmetproekt and CREEC (China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group) participating. Total project cost is estimated at RUB384.1 bn for Russian Railways and RUB684.4 bn for the three concessioners.
