Russian Railways contracts with Russian-Chinese consortium for Moscow–Kazan HSR design

At the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Russian Railways and a Russian-Chinese consortium entered into a design contract for Moscow-Kazan high-speed railway line (HSR). The contract was signed in the presence of Russian Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov and Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli. As informed earlier, the consortium is lead by Mosgiprotrans, with Nizhegorodmetproekt and CREEC (China Railway Eryuan Engineering Group Co. Ltd.) participating. The contract period is 2015-2016 with the design price at RUB20 bn less VAT. Mosgiprotrans is a Russian design institute; its staff includes specialists in over 40 engineering disciplines. The institute has designed Russia's largest infrastructure projects such as Baikal-Amur, Amur-Yakutsk mainline railways, many railway lines, bridges, stations, and other facilities. CREEC, formerly a state-owned design organisation, is a largest engineering company is China. CREEC includes 16 design institutes, 17 business units, 22 subsidiaries, 7 foreign representative offices, 1 research centre and 1 R&D centre, and totally employs over 6,000 people. CREEC is involved in rail and motor roads, utilities, multi-storey construction, port operations, geotechnical surveys, etc. Nizhegorodmetproekt (former Gorkovmetproekt) has designed metro in Nizhny Novgorod, Samara, Kazan and a number of other modern infrastructure facilities, such as the road/railway bridge across the Oka river. As reported earlier, the line will be about 770 km long and cross seven regions with a population of over 25 mn. It will have 15 stops, including Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Cheboksary and Kazan. The estimated annual passenger flow in the initial years of service is 10.5 mn people.
