First Vice President of Russian Railways: Moscow-Kazan HSR design costs to reduce by 10%

Final railway line design costs will be defined after completion of design works by the end of this year. Design costs of Moscow-Kazan high-speed railway line (HSR) will reduce by 10%, as Alexander Misharin, First Vice President of Russian Railways, told the media in the back rooms of the ASEAN-Russia Forum. “About 10 percent”, he answered to a question whether design costs were going to fall. The final amount of HSR design costs will be defined after completion of design works by the end of this year. “So far, it is only clear for separate sections. Section 1 will be submitted for an expert review in July”, noted Mr. Misharin. Total value of HSR design was estimated as RUB20 bn less VAT. Design costs will, therefore, drop by RUB2 bn to RUB18 bn, while the total construction costs of Moscow-Kazan HSR equals RUB1.068 tn. In the future, Moscow-Kazan section can become a part of Moscow-Beijing HSR, which estimated cost is RUB7 tn, and of the Silk Way Project to link China with European and Middle East markets. Moscow-Kazan line will be about 770 km long with the travel speed of 400 km/h and stations at each 50-70 km. Travel time by HSR from Moscow to Kazan will be 3.5 hours against the current 14 hours.
